I can't say enough how excited I am about this teeny tiny little patch of earth in my yard ....LOL
If anyone has ever read my older posts and stories of life on the farm in the Good Ol Days, or if you go ahead and mosey through my archived stories, you can read some stories about the "Farm" Days....
Hubby Randy was having as much fun at Lowe's picking out the plants as I was.... Now, of course you all know it's a little late to be planting a garden here in NW Pa. , but we managed to find some nice looking plants that had a great headstart on us....LOL
We didn't plant much , but kept it fun for now....
We did take the chance and plant 2 rows of Sweet corn from seed, as Hubbs remembered the first year we farmed, we were late in getting our equipment and seed and fertilizer loan so we actually planted field corn the last week of June and prayed and by the Grace of God, we had a decent crop in the Fall, although we did have to hold out just a hair longer than most of our farmer neighbors to harvest it...
We also planted a mild Jalapeno Pepper plant, green pepper plant, Honeydew, green onion, Zucchini, 2 sandwich type tomato plants and 1 cherry tomato plant, ..... a few herbs, cilantro and lavender , and Rosemary ... I have 2 nice sized Pumpkin plants that are going in a separate patch in the back yard......
Now...I also have some ground covering perennials and flowering perennials to plant in other spots in the yard....
I wanted the little picket fence and hoped it might also be a very "small" deterrent to the Bunny population in the neighborhood.... We have a few newer big cats close by our house and I've noticed less and less bunnies ..... kinda sad cause I know they will catch and kill the babies and not the mommas, but such is nature....
I also finished and framed my Saltbox Sampler Stitchery... I glued the corners onto the cardboard to hold in place and see where the glue seeped through and darkened the fabric ?? Oh well, I will just not look at that part...LOL
Your garden looks great Robin! Hope you get lots of goodies from it!
ReplyDeleteYour stitchery looks good :) If the glue thing bugs you, you could try coffee staining darker in spots so it looks like part of the staining. Or maybe add some sort of fabric square or decoration to the corners. Something like that could work. I can't see it in the photo, though. :)
ReplyDeleteThe garden is cute. Jer and I talk about doing a garden about every year but just run out of time. We need to get stuff here and work on the soil first. I know we will find a goo 100 rocks in no time! LOL Honestly, between Jer's Mom, my Dad and my grandparents, we're not lacking in fresh produce in the summer. They start calling and BEGGING us to take some!
Hope you had a great weekend :)
Your tiny farm is amazing!! I love myself to grow my own vegetabless butleaving in the city I've no garden at all. That's my dream to move to the countryside may be when I retire and children are old enough!
ReplyDeleteI love your stitchery and how you framed it. Don't worry about the glue spot, just put a little square of fabric on!
I did a "stitchery on canvas" (sorry if this is not the correct translation). I'm going to show it in my blog.
Hugs
Lizzie

i love the saltbox sampler!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your garden spot!
ReplyDeleteAnd the sampler looks great!!! I think the glue spots add to the charm!
I know you don't think that, but lol, he I tried!
I love your sweet little garden Robin! I'd like to have a garden. When we moved into our house last year, my older boy and I were preparing a spot for a future garden, and then kind of didn't bother with it, and now it will take a while to clear out as it has been overcome with weeds. About the only thing growing in there now is pumpkins. Well, they try and grow, but die off. I'm thinking the vines are really too long. LOL! Anyway, I love your sampler. I think it turned out great!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Andrea
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteI want you to stop over at my blog, I have a award for you!!!

Keep us posted on the "growth", Robin! A woman I work with just started growing 2 tomato plants in an earth box (we are city slickers ya know, haha) and she was bragging on how large they are getting with 2 clusters of 4 tomatoes each ! It's not even July and she is getting luscious fruit, so I may just have to check into them myself! My husband has let me have a couple of areas for flowers - but he would never consent to giving up space for an actual garden :(
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
Hi Robin, I think your little picket fenced parcel of ground is adorable! Those plants look like they have a pretty good head start, too. Come on by for a visit. God Bless, Celene
